City and Inter take a point
A HEAVY CF White Oval was the scene of the weekend's only men's football match as City took on Inter in miserable conditions.
It was a fairly open game from the outset as the ball skidded across the pitch, making feet hard to find.
City was coming off a 3-0 win over Carlton mid-week and took the lead as Andrew Volpato pounced on a spill from the Inter keeper.
But the lead didn't last long as some sloppy defending saw Inter cross from the edge of the box, the ball somehow making its way into the top corner.
The rest of the half was even. City played the ball down the wings while Inter used the slick pitch to its advantage with long balls over the back line.
It looked as though the scores would be level at half time until Luke Andreatta slotted a nicely weighted through ball for Shannon Bates to slot home two minutes before the break.
It was much the same in the second half, Inter knocking the ball long while City played the wings.
But it wasn't long until the scores were again level as Inter's pace up front exploited a through ball which was well placed under the City keeper.
Both sides came close and will be disappointed they didn't take home the three points - perhaps a reflection the draw was a fair result, 2-2.
The second men's fixture between United and Carlton at Inter club was rescheduled for later.
City 2 - 0 Inter
City's women took the points against Inter at the weekend with a 2-0 victory at CF White Oval.
Emily Hoffman and Kaylah Brackin were the scorers for City, which has started its title defence in impressive style.
