Meeting addresses new dam concerns

A COMMUNITY consultation in Stanthorpe on Monday night provided information about the upcoming Emu Swamp dam detailed business plan.

More than 50 residents, raised questions including costs to ratepayers and transparency of the plan.

Those attending included residents who may have their land acquired compulsorily.

Project Steering Committee chair Brent Finlay and project manager Lloyd Taylor hosted the meeting, reiterating they want to remain entirely transparent and involve the community as much as possible.

"We're here to make sure we take you with us,” Mr Finlay said.

He reminded residents the plan must go through State Government before they had permission to release information to the public.

They hope to have a similar consultation in May when the first stage of the business plan is completed and new information is available.

Also in attendance was Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Tracy Dobie.
