Meet the new voice for the Granite Belt

A NEW independent community-based organisation has been formed on the Granite Belt.

Reverend Alan Colyer is the president of the new group, which will hold its first meeting on Tuesday.

"I think in the community there is interest in our group and what we're trying to achieve,” he said.

"We've met several times as a committee.

"We have highlighted points that we want to follow through, five core principals.

"Tourism is a major issue. Hospital services, we're concerned that we're hearing about the possible depletion of hospital services and care for the ages in the Granite Belt area.

Rev Colyer said they were also interested in sporting field and anything which impacts the communities of the Granite Belt, as well as the future of the agriculture sector and council services in the region.

"The Granite Belt Community Association Inc. is an independent voice working to support the future of the communities of the Granite Belt,” he said.

"But we're not out to fight with the Southern Downs Regional Council.

"We're out to work with them and to applaud them when they look after the Granite Belt.”

He hoped to engage other community groups from around the Granite Belt.

Rev Colyer said there would be a public meeting on Tuesday, February 21 at the rugby league clubhouse on Harris St, Stanthorpe from 6.30pm.

"We would ask that people interested in the future of the Granite Belt come to that meeting,” he said.
