Meet Ipswich's biggest bub at 13 pounds, six ounces

LET's call him the Big McGuire.

One of Ipswich's newest residents Jake Cooper McGuire could be mistaken for being two months old, instead of just two days.

He weighed a whopping 13 pounds and 6 ounces when he was born to proud parents Nicole and David McGuire on Tuesday at Ipswich Hospital.

Jake's weight, about 6.04kg in the metric system, is a full 2.6kg more than the average Australian newborn.

His size didn't come as a surprise for mum and dad however, with two of his older siblings weighing in at more than 11 pounds at birth.

Mrs McGuire said his oldest sister Ella, 9, weighed 11 pounds 6 ounces while brother Brodie, 7, was 11 pounds 10 ounces.

Even three-year-old Ruby was higher than average at 8 pounds 13 ounces at birth.

All three siblings were bubbly and excited to meet not-so-little Jake yesterday alongside their grandparents.

Mrs McGuire, who gave birth via caesarean, paid credit to the staff at Ipswich Hospital who helped with Jake's birth and care.

"The hospital staff have been fantastic," she said. Mrs McGuire said Jake's middle name Cooper came from her admiration for former NRL player Matt Cooper.

"He's got the size for a footy player so there you go," she said. Jake also has league heritage on his side in uncle Josh McGuire.

Jake is the largest baby born at Ipswich Hospital in records dating back to 2004.

He is also close to 500g more than the second-highest weigh in, born in July 2013 weighing 5.56kg.
