Mazda3 improves market odds with rapid-fire price drop

ODDS of Mazda3 returning to the number one selling spot in the Australian passenger car market have shorted quickly.

Drive-away pricing of $19,990 (a drop of about $3000) for the Mazda3 started on July 1 which has the odds with online bookie sportsbet.com.au going into reverse.

A new Mazda3 will arrive in Australia next year. The new look hatch was revealed recently in Melbourne, which has prompted the drive-away pricing.

Mazda3 started the year as the $2.20 favourite in the market before stalling and dropping out to $4.50, however, this latest move to attract customers has seen their odds speed up to a more competitive $3.

Toyota remained the best and second best-selling brand for June but their HiLux is now right in the Corolla's rear-view, moving from $2.75 into $2.50.

Despite finishing second for June, the Corolla still sets the pace with overall sales and in the betting as the $2.10 favourite.

Troubled manufacture Holden has seen the previously unstoppable Commodore suffer a blow-out with odds now offered at $15.

"Less than 900 cars separated the top three cars in the first six months of the year. H2 could see Mazda3 overtake both Toyotas," sportsbet.com.au's Will Byrne said.
