Marino a game-changer in win

Ballandean v Carlton:

The morning's Fillies tie proved to be one of the closer tussles of the day with Carlton claiming the win away from home 3-2.

The game went into half-time at 2-2, but Carlton rallied and got their noses in front and held on to the end.

The Junior Colts game was a largely one-sided affair with Ballandean retaining possession for much of the game.

Carlton showed resilience to keep their opponents out for as long as they did but in the end Ballandean streaked away to grab a 4-0 win.

Due to player numbers a friendly was played out in the Senior Colts.

The home side went in favourites in the Ladies tie but knew they'd be made to work for it.

Anika Spiller dominated the early play, grabbing a brace for herself to get Ballandean out to a comfortable lead. Two penalties soon followed with the reds going up 3-0 before Carlton put theirs away to make it 3-1.

But Ballandean regained ascendancy in the second half with two more goals added by Jamie Buckley and Ally McLellan. Despite the 5-1 finish, the score wasn't a true reflection of the tough contest according to Ballandean's coaching staff.

Next up was the A-grade encounter and the first-half failed to live up to the hype. The sides were deadlocked at nil-all going into the break.

Playing in an unfamiliar role, Anthony Marino proved the difference in the second half as he grabbed two goals from left midfield.

Carlton pulled a goal back after being awarded a penalty for hand ball, but Ballandean again stretched their lead when Marino grabbed an assist after putting the ball on a platter for Will Burns, who tucked away his first A-grade goal. The game ended 3-1.
