Man does 'army roll' under car to hide from police

WHEN Yeppoon's Kurt MacLean army-rolled underneath his car in an attempt to hide from police, he was hoping they wouldn't find him.

But after police had witnessed the young driver failing to stop at a stop sign after leaving the Keppel Bay Plaza, they had him squarely in their sights.

Prosecutor Shaun Janes yesterday told the Yeppoon Magistrates Court that MacLean was pulled over by police on August 20 at 6.35pm.

"When police approached the vehicle for disobeying the stop sign, MacLean jumped out and rolled under the car to hide from police," Sgt Janes said.

"He then had to be removed from under the car by police force."

The court heard after MacLean was charged with obstructing police and disobeying a stop sign, he was found driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle while unlicensed.

MacLean told the court it was the "stupidest" thing he'd ever done.

He pleaded guilty to all five charges and was fined $1400 in total with traffic convictions recorded.
