A MOTHER cradles her child in the driveway of a Carrara home where only hours before a man was shot.

The pair haven't moved since the violent incident despite heavily armed police locking down the area and setting up a crime scene at the Plateau Crescent address just after 4pm.

A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said he saw a green car speed past when he went out to the street to find out what was going on.

"I was in absolute shock," the neighbour told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

"It's not something you expect to happen on an idle Monday afternoon.

"To be honest because it was just one loud bang I thought it was a motorbike or something making a loud noise.

"When I went back inside and turned the television on I realised it was a bit more sinister than that.

The neighbour said: "it's usually a quiet street, nothing really happens here".

Four paramedic crews including high acuity response unit and critical care paramedic treated the man before transporting him to Gold Coast University Hospital.
