Man seriously injured following crash near Stanthorpe

A Cottonvale man has been airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane following a single vehicle rollover at Applethorpe in the early hours of this morning.

The driver, a 29-year-old male is suffering serious head injuries and remains in a critical condition.

A 20-year-old back seat passenger suffered a broken collarbone, while a 16-year-old riding in the front was uninjured.

Officer in Charge of Stanthorpe Police Station, Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said things could've been a lot worse.

"They were lucky to get out of it alive," he said.

"The driver has got some serious closed head injuries.

"The passengers claim they were sticking to the speed limit but we are yet to conduct any formal interviews."
