A MAN cut free from a vehicle which slammed into a tree on the Western Downs has been airlifted to Toowoomba.

Emergency services used a winch to pull the car away from the tree after the single-vehicle crash on the Surat Developmental Rd at Tara about 6pm Monday.

The Queensland Ambulance Service reported the man was airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.
