Man charged with third drug driving offence

A WALLANGARRA man has pleaded guilty to drug driving at Stanthorpe Magistrates Court this morning.

The court heard Brett John Atkinson, 30, was caught driving while he had cannabis in his system.

Mr Atkinson was allegedly using the drug to help him deal with night terrors.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey said, “he has put himself in this situation”.

“He’s run out of opportunities here,” he said.

“He’s got two previous drug driving charges in 2015 and 2017.

“As far as a fine goes, he’s had it before, and it hasn’t stopped him.”

Mr Atkinson has been disqualified from driving for six months and received a three-month suspended jail sentence over a 12-month period.

“You have three months over your head for twelve months,” Magistrate Bevan Manthey said.
