Man charged with murder of Korean exchange student

THE man accused of killing South Korean exchange student Min Tae Kim will spend Christmas in jail.

Sanghyun Hwang, 28, faced Brisbane Magistrates Court today charged with murder.

Hwang is accused of murdering Min Tae Kim, whose body was found in a shallow grave on Thursday, a month before he planned to return home to South Korea.

It is believed the two met online after Mr Kim attempted to exchange $15,000 into Korean Won ahead of his return home.

The hearing lasted minutes.

Hwang was remanded in custody until January 20.
