Man bashed and robbed in home invasion

A SOUTHERN Downs man has been bashed and robbed in a violent home invasion near Stanthorpe.

Stanthorpe police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said three men entered an isolated rural home on Marinis Rd at Mt Tully between 5.30am and 6am yesterday.

Snr Sgt Ireland said the resident was bashed and threatened.

"As a consequence he handed over keys he had to a small safe he had in the dwelling," Snr Sgt Ireland said.

Property was stolen from the safe.

"It is unconfirmed exactly what has been stolen."

The resident's partner was also in the home at the time.

She was uninjured.

The men fled before the resident and his partner drove to Stanthorpe Hospital.

Police were then notified by hospital staff.

Snr Sgt Ireland said the man suffered serious facial injuries.

"He was assaulted with an implement."

The man has since been taken to a Brisbane hospital for tests and treatment.

Snr Sgt Ireland did not have a description of a getaway car.

"It would appear they have walked in from the road and walked back to the road."

Stanthorpe Criminal Investigation Branch is investigating.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
