Lucky escape as driver pulled from crumpled wreck
A WOMAN was hospitalised after the vehicle she was driving slammed into a tree and overturned on Ripley Rd, Raceview.
Firefighters were called to assist in freeing the 50-year-old driver from the small car, which left a trail of debris after coming to grief on Ripley Rd about 7.05am yesterday.
A witness said the vehicle veered onto the wrong side of the road before smashing into the tree and flipping over.
Police said the car - which carried Blue Care insignia - rolled several times, causing serious damage and blocking the road outside the Nowlanvil aged care facility. The woman somehow escaped with only minor injuries, but still required transport to hospital.
The impact caused part of a tree to fall onto the road, requiring a council crew to attend and remove.

Police said the cause of the crash was yet to be confirmed, but alcohol had been eliminated as a factor. A blood sample was taken from the driver at hospital, as per regular police procedure for such accidents.
In a busy morning for the emergency services, there was also a minor two-car smash near the intersection of Old Ipswich Rd and Collingwood Dr about 5.30am.
The nose-to-tail crash blocked one lane for a short time, with one of the vehicles not driveable and needing to be towed from the scene.
Police said one of the drivers was issued with a ticket for following too close.
