Allie walks 340km on Burke & Wills track for diabetes
AFTER 11 days and 340km, Evans Head resident Allie Connolly finally finished walking the Burke and Wills track, raising $7780 for research into Type 1 diabetes.
Ms Connolly did the trek back in August and is excited to have completed such a long walk.
"It was hard in parts, hot and there were lots of sand dunes," she laughed.
"It would be cool in the mornings and night though."
It was such a challenging walk that at the end of it Ms Connolly found herself at the Birdsville Pub with a beer in her hand.
"And I don't even drink beer!" she said.
"I think the fourth day was my hardest as we had been out of bed at 5.30am and were walking 40km a day.
"The last day was easy as it was only 18km."
There were 32 other people doing the trek as well.
"I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who supported me," she said.
"Without them I wouldn't have raised as much money as I did."
And Ms Connolly's next big walking challenge?
"Next trip will be the Nullarbor Plain next year," she said.
