Local councillors play to their strengths

AS PART of an overall streamlining of business functions at the Southern Downs Regional Council, councillors have been allocated new portfolios.

Mayor Peter Blundell said council had taken time making the decision, as it wanted to get the best fit and feel for everyone.

"I will look after economic development and emergency management," he said.

"Deputy mayor Ross Bartley will be responsible for infrastructure."

Cameron Gow is agriculture and environment management, Denise Ingram is community services, Neil Meiklejohn is planning and environment, Glyn Rees is sports, parks and cemeteries, Vic Pennisi is commerce and industry, Jamie Mackenzie is area promotion and Jo McNally is finance and governance.

"All councillors will be across all aspects of council business but the portfolio structure will allow them to specialise in their areas of strength," Cr Blundell said.
