Little Athletics pick regional championships team

COMING back after the school holidays, Granite Belt Little Athletics still had about 30 athletes eagerly attending their first meet of the year.

Committee member Toni Jackson said it was a great attendance given it was a long weekend and the show was on.

The children enjoyed getting back into long jump, discus, middle distance and javelin.

"We measured long jump, discus and middle distance,” Jackson said.

"The kids had a great time learning javelin skills and some children even got to throw our new javelins that we've obtained using grant funding. These were a big hit with the kids.

"We were amazed with the results the kids achieved with new PBs being achieved in all events, especially since we'd had a break over the holidays.

"I coached middle distance with Jodie Cosmo and we were surprised and very pleased at how many PBs were beaten yesterday.

"With our new recording sheets from our Results HQ software that shows previous PBs, the kids loved finding out straight away if they had beaten their previous best result.”

This week's events will be high jump, shot put, sprints and relays. High jump and shot put will be measured.

There are six weeks remaining in this season.

The Granite Belt has the following athletes attending the Downs and South West Regional Championships in Toowoomba this weekend:

Darcy Daddow, Addison McCosker, Aiden McCosker, Sara Navybox, Brigid O'Dea, Erin O'Dea, Liam O'Dea, Margaret O'Dea. We wish them the very best of luck.
