Lions share for Tessa

GRILLED, but still unflappable, Assumption College's Tessa O'Brien was named NAB Warwick Lion's Youth of the Year for 2012 on Wednesday night.

After answering impromptu questions in front of a packed crowd at the Criterion, Tessa then delivered an impressive five minute speech on the role of women in modern society.

She was up against some tough competition with six other competitors from the Rose City's three high schools competing for the prize.

She'll go on to represent Warwick in the regionals.

"It's been a wonderful experience for me," Tessa said.

"The public speaking part was the most nerve-racking but I enjoyed to one-on-one interviews where I could be myself. I was very surprised to win."

Lucy Boland from Warwick State High School was crowned with the public speaking award for her impressive responses to questions on whaling and screen addiction. She delivered an speech on current affairs too.

Assumption's Eloise Belcher and Luke Cannon took part along with Warwick State High's Jessica Hine and Scots PGC's Amy Bradfield and Dancey Gordon.
