Lifelong love of Monaro muscle
IT was his first love.
Seeing the Aussie muscle car rumble into his driveway as a child, Greg Sheather made a promise he'd one day be behind the wheel of a Monaro.
It was being driven by one of his older brothers and Mr Sheather immediately admired it and wanted one.
Fourteen years ago in his teenage years, earning less than $200 a week, he searched across the country and finally found a suitable 1968 Monaro and secured his first loan to buy it.
Meeting his life partner Donna only a few months after buying his dream car, they spent countless hours bringing the Monaro into great shape to drive Miss Sheather to their wedding eight years ago.
Now with two boys – three-year-old Jack and 19-month-old Beau – the whole family supports the classic muscle car and are eager to attend the Monaro Nationals this weekend.
“We are planning on going down to Morgan Park to to the drags on Sunday – that's what I am mainly looking forward to,” Mr Sheather said.
The bright yellow machine is ready to burn rubber on Sunday, shaping up against Monaros from across the country after Mr Sheather just finished putting in a new motor.
“It's going to be a bit of a grudge match; my brother has one and so does my brother-in-law, so we will see who is the fastest,” he said with a laugh.
Mrs Sheather noted how amazing it was to have the Nationals in their home town and being able to see hundreds of their dream cars altogether.
“It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity – can't wait to see them all together in the one place,” she said.
