Rocky's bikie lawyer says police bikie stats ‘incorrect’

ROCKHAMPTON criminal lawyer Doug Winning says the media are being fed "patently incorrect" statistics about the effectiveness of the Newman Government's legislation against outlaw motorcycle gangs.

The lawyer, who has represented bikies in the past, said he had not heard about 27 individuals charged with offences in the Capricornia region since the legislation was passed in October.

"I have to question these statistics," he said.

"If 27 bikies had been charged I would be representing at least half of them," he said.

"I am aware about some members in Emerald who were charged about a fight, but that happened before the legislation came into place.

"My bet is it has to do with the alleged associates.

"They (the police) are selling patently incorrect stats to the media.

"I would look at these statistics with an abundance of scepticism."

He acknowledged there was a high standard of policing in Rockhampton.
