Ladies pair slog it out

UNITED V INTER:

STANTHORPE United played host to Inter Club on Saturday with a set of mixed results for both clubs on the day.

A new-look United Fillies side had a tough tie, unable to break down a strong and determined Inter outfit.

In the succeeding game, United's Junior Colts got the best of their opponents in an end to end battle.

Same again in Senior Colts as the two sides played out a thrilling game.

Little split the two, but United ran out winners 3-2.

Coming off the back of two hard-fought draws in game one of the season, the two ladies sides were keen to register their first win.

It was a perfect start for United when Alesha Westerhout latched on to a cross from United striker Maddie Maguire. Westerhout would bag a second in the 2-1 win for the Redbacks.

United's men were in for a dogged fight, only able to field five regular A-graders in a makeshift side.

Inter would grab the opening two goals to lead 2-nil at the half-time interval.

Despite their youth and relative inexperience, United never gave up the fight and pulled a goal back through Hunter Murphy.

Inter put the tie to bed late on when they grabbed a third goal in a 3-1 win.
