'King hit' thug sentenced
WARWICK man Nathaniel Jai Hooper has avoided jail time this week after a vicious attack that left his victim bleeding profusely in the street.
Acting Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist told Hooper that had the victim pursued assault charges, Hooper would have served time behind bars.
Hooper was instead charged with public nuisance, to which he pleaded guilty.
The court heard on the evening of September 22, the 20-year-old was observed by police to chase down his victim and "king hit" him in the street.
The victim attempted to get back on his feet but was hit again by Hooper, sending him crashing to the ground for the second time.
Hooper told police the attack was retribution for the man having been a "smartass" earlier in the evening.
The 20-year-old was sentenced to three months jail, wholly suspended for 12 months.
