FIVE-year-old footy fan Kayden Kolm has been given his wish to watch the Broncos in action thanks to the kindness of a stranger - who turned out not to be so strange after all - and the Bundaberg Rugby League.

On Thursday morning, when Kayden's story was published in the NewsMail, Barry Fensom walked into Bundaberg Broadcasters and bought a ticket to the meet and greet session at the Broncos vs Cowboys game, set to kick off at Salter Oval on February 6 - not for himself but for Kayden, a kid he'd never met.

"To be honest, I'm not even that big of a fan," Barry admitted. "I've just been really lucky. I've got kids too, I've got a new baby - I just thought it would be something nice to do."

What he and Kayden's mum, Tracey Lawson, didn't realise was that they'd met before, as part of a volunteer group feeding the homeless - a mark of small world that is the tight-knit Bundaberg community. They will be volunteering together again at Alexandra Park on Christmas morning.

After Barry's kind deed, Bundaberg Rugby League decided to donate two grandstand seats at the game for Kayden and Tracey. The tickets were handed over at Salter Oval on Friday.

A mad footy fan, Kayden likes to play with his brothers - "He's not too good, because he has trouble with his left side, at throwing and catching the ball," Tracey said, "but that doesn't stop him."

Kayden is down in Sydney for six weeks visiting his father and was ecstatic at the news.

"He is absolutely over the moon," Tracey said. "He's so excited - he was just screaming. He was with his nan who was babysitting him and she said 'What's going on!'

"When I told him he was going to meet them he said, 'Really? Really?' He didn't believe me.

"To Barry, Mike, you, thank you," she said. "I'm so grateful. Couldn't do it without you.

"He's looking forward to coming home now."
