Just like one happy family

THESE four fabulous ladies have found a rewarding past-time as volunteers at St Vincent de Paul.

They all spend two days a week happily volunteering at the Grafton St store.

Henny Hair, who has been volunteering for six years, said they all started out there the same way.

"When the kids were all grown up and we wanted something to do we decided to come here and donate out time after a friend had recommended it," Mrs Hair said.

"I know I definitely do not speak for myself when I say we really do enjoy the work we do here."

Janette Reeves who has been volunteering for two years said for them it's about being involved in the community.

"It's just about knowing that you are doing something good for the community," Mrs Reeves said.

Verna Heffler has only been volunteering for a month but has no plans to stop.

"I enjoy my time here because it's about meeting people and helping them. It is a great feeling," she said.

Mrs Hair said all the volunteers were like family.

"We've all made some life long friends here which are just an added bonus," she said.

Bernie Hayter said sometimes the kindness of people when she was volunteering at the shop surprised her.

"We had a hen's party come in and try on all the clothes and take photos and before they left they tidied up and gave a $50 donation," Mrs Hayter said.
