Junior team takes games seriously
THE Queensland Junior Mounted Games Team trained at the Warwick Showgrounds yesterday as they prepare to go to the Prince Phillip Mounted Games to be held at Nambour on July 24.
Queensland coach Russell Duncan from Mt Mee said the students would be put through a series of games involving their horses, along with dismounting and mounting on the move.
The Queensland junior team is Callum Miller, Timothy Burraston, Selena Madsen, Teleeka Adams, Benjamin Eastwell and Nathan Brown as reserve.
Each team consists of five riders with senior and junior teams from each state competing in the 21-game event.
Russell said the events, which include Rope Race, Sword Race, Hurdle Race and Balloon Busting Race, all involve eye and hand co-ordination, with teams working in relay for some events.
Mr Duncan said the students were also trialling some horses yesterday as Warwick and District Pony Club members have pooled 25 horses to go to the games.
The games will require 80 horses for the weekend with all of them coming from areas around Nambour.
All competitors will get one day’s practise on the horses before the games.
Timothy Eastwell is in the senior team and Tamra Bonfield reserve.
