Green thumbs set for competition
FOR the first time green thumb Graham Gillam will take part in the annual gardening competition and encourages other novices to do so.
The Horticultural Society Garden Competition is judged next Monday and Tuesday and with the abundance of rain this season there is bound to be a colourful show.
Society president Mr Gillam hopes that his spirit to have a go will prompt other Rose City residents to nominate for free by the closing day on Friday and see how they compare.
With the plentiful rain this season Mr Gillam expects a great showing of gardens and loads of entries in the Spring Flower Show at St Mary's Hall from Wednesday.
However the lack of sunshine has some buds refusing to open and gardening enthusiasts are hoping for a bit of sunshine to bring the flowers to life.
“Everyone is in the same boat this year, what is affecting me is affecting another gardener on the other side of town so it shouldn't stop anyone having a go,” Mr Gillam said.
Cut an entry form for the Garden Competition out of a Daily News or the Warwick and Southern Downs Weekly and drop it into Bryson's Place on Palmerin Street by Friday.
Then pick out your favourite flowers, pot plants or vegetables and head down to St. Mary's Hall next Wednesday before 10am to enter for free in the Spring Flower Show.
All presentations for the Garden Competition and the Spring Flower Show will be held on Thursday from 4pm at St Mary's Hall.
