Judge wants fraud case finalised

BRADLEY Royston Sparrow will again face the Warwick District Court today to answer a total of nine fraud charges.

It is alleged the 30-year-old Warwick man deposited a cheque and withdrew a total of $25,000 from the account before the cheque cleared.

The court yesterday heard the alleged offences took place around five years ago.

Sparrow briefly appeared in the court yesterday when he represented himself and attempted to have the matter adjourned to next year.

Judge Julie Ryrie denied the man's application, telling him he had already had two ajournments and she ordered the matters finalised during this sitting of the court.

Sparrow then requested the matter be dealt with then and there, however he was urged to seek representation and told a jail sentence was a possibility for the charges he faced.

Sparrow left the court room with the warning that the matter would be finalised - whether he was represented by counsel or not - before the end of next week.

He is due to reappear this afternoon.

In other court news, a Swanfels man is due to appear in the Warwick District Court next year to face charges of producing and possessing dangerous drugs.

Klaus Dieter Mayr did not appear in court yesterday but was represented by counsel.

It is alleged the 52-year-old was found in possession of marijuana in an amount exceeding 500g.

Defence counsel for Mayr requested the matter be adjourned until the next District Court sittings, set for the second week in February, 2012.

Judge Julie Ryrie was reluctant to do so, pressing the solicitor as to whether the matter could be finalised during the current sitting.

Mayr's solicitor told the court Mayr had only been committed for trial two weeks ago and the matter had progressed rather quickly.

Judge Ryrie warned Mayr's solicitor the matter would be dealt with in February, telling him it was "more than enough time" to prepare.
