Joyriding daredevil captured
A KANGAROO Point man has been arrested after a frightening alcohol fuelled joyride through the streets of Stanthorpe.
With Road Safety Week just around the corner, Stanthorpe Senior Constable Justin Kneen said it was this kind of deadly behaviour they wanted stamped out.
"A man was intercepted allegedly travelling 46 kilometres per hour over the speed limit on High St, Stanthorpe late last Friday night,” Sen Const Kneen said.
"Around 11.50pm officers from Stanthorpe Police Station detected a hatchback travelling north, allegedly reaching a speed of 106 kilometres per hour in a 60 kilometre per hour speed zone.
"The 26-year-old Kangaroo Point man was further alleged to be unlicensed and mid-range drink driving at the time of interception.
"He allegedly returned a result almost three times the legal limit,” he said.
The man will front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on September 18.
Road Safety Week runs from August 26-30 and Sen Const Kneen said police would have an increased presence on the road.
"Stanthorpe Police will be conducting road safety presentations at various education facilities around the region and a Drink Rite Night at the Stanthorpe RSL on Friday, August 30,” he said.
"There will be an increased police presence and traffic enforcement on all the regions' roads over this period.”
