Johnny Depp's dogs Pistol and Boo could be left "stateless"

JOHNNY Depp's dogs Pistol and Boo are expected to board a flight back to the United States today, but a day after threatening the dogs with death after their Hollywood owners breached quarantine protocol, Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce now said he now feared the dogs could be left "stateless".

The two Yorkshire terriers were brought into Australia by Depp and wife Amber Heard while he filmed the latest Pirates of the Caribbean film on the Gold Coast.

EARLIER:

Mr Joyce said he was now "seriously worried" they might not have the right permits to get back into the US and be unable to return to their home country.

"The question is if he breached our laws, then did he follow the correct laws in the US?" Mr Joyce told ABC News in a statement.

"My worry is will the US let them back in? If not ... will they have anywhere to go?"

The Minister did not seem so "seriously worried" on Thursday when he made clear that the dogs could face death if they did not "bugger off" back to the United States within 50 hours.

The Minster said the actor had "snuck them in", breaking quarantine laws.

"Now Mr Depp has to either take his dogs back to California or we're going to have to euthanise them. He's now got about 50 hours left to remove the dogs

"He can put them on the same charter jet he flew out on and fly back out of our nation.

"It's time that Pistol and Boo bugger off back to the United States. After that I don't expect to be invited to the opening of the Pirates of Caribbean."
