WHAT'S happening on the employment front in your region? While conditions might have softened in the mining and resources industry, compared to the record activity of the previous 18 months or so, there are still plenty of opportunities out there if you know where to look.

There are still more than 23,000 jobs listed on, along with the latest advice and research to help you find your dream job. If you can't get online, here's an overview of the opportunities waiting in your region.

Central Queensland

As of Monday this week, there were more than 830 vacancies listed in central Queensland. Despite the negative news from the sector, the mining, oil and gas sector still accounts for more than 100 of those vacancies. The trades and services and engineering industries both also have more than 100 vacancies.

Far north Queensland

MyCareer has almost 600 vacancies listed through far north Queensland, and similar to central Queensland, most of these are in trades and services; mining, oil and gas; and engineering.

Toowoomba and the south west

As was the case one month ago, accounting positions are in good supply in Toowoomba and the south west - 40 of the more than 340 vacancies are ideally suited to number-crunchers. Logistics, transport and supply roles are also readily available.

Gold Coast

It's a similar story on the Gold Coast, where accountants are in short supply - more than one quarter of the 200-plus vacancies are in financial services. Hospitality, travel and tourism opportunities also abound on the Glitter Strip.

Sunshine Coast

On the Sunshine Coast, trades and services roles remain strong, accounting for more than 50 of the 190 vacancies on MyCareer. Medical and healthcare, and automotive are also strong.

Outback Queensland

What's happening in outback Queensland? Plenty, if you're looking for work in mining, oil and gas. There are numerous vacancies, of which many are paying well into six-figures.

NSW north coast

Heading south, medical and healthcare staff are in high demand in northern NSW. Most of these positions are full-time, and cover sectors including aged and disability care, nursing, administration and allied health.
