QUEENSLAND Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie's former chief of staff is earning $2000 a day as one of four counsel assisting the child protection inquiry Mr Bleijie helped set up.

But the Queensland Child Protection Commission of Inquiry yesterday said Ryan Haddrick brought relevant experience to the role and appointees were "not selected or excluded on the basis of their connections or perceived affiliations".

Mr Haddrick, who was admitted as a barrister two years ago, had previously served as an adviser to the former Queensland opposition leader, John-Paul Langbroek, and federal Liberal politicians.
