Innocent husband copped plenty
ONE of the men responsible for catching the killer of Melbourne ABC staffer Jill Meagher in 2012 has expressed regret for the "awful” treatment of her husband Tom while he was a suspect early in the investigation.
"When you think about it down the track, you're left thinking 'Jeez, we were pretty awful, for the way we've treated this poor guy',” Detective Sergeant David Butler said in the documentary Conviction, which screened last night on the ABC.
"Not only has he lost his wife, but now he's been treated pretty badly by us in some respects.”
