Huge defeat for Stanthorpe/Texas ahead of semi-final
Rugby League: Stanthorpe/Texas have faced a major loss during their game against Inglewood ahead of the semi-finals this weekend.
Stanthorpe/Texas chairman David Ball said while the end score was 78-0, the boys had played a good game.
"They played fairly well against a good side considering they're two separate teams, Stanthorpe and Texas that don't get to train together that much,” Mr Ball said.
While Inglewood claimed possession of the ball for most of the game, Mr Ball said the ball control shown by Stanthorpe/ Texas was one of their strengths.
"The younger under 18s boys that stepped up, they played really well and just in patches, when we had the ball, they (Stanthorpe/ Texas) controlled it really well, but we didn't have a lot of possession.
Stanthorpe/ Texas had also improved their game after their match against Tenterfield last week, Mr Ball said.
"They played a lot better than they did against Tenterfield,” he said.
Mr Ball said the stand out player for him was Michael Marini from the U18s who joined the team for this weeks game.
Stanthorpe/ Texas are currently third on the ladder and are now preparing for the semi-final game against Killarney.
Mr Ball said that Stanthorpe/ Texas will most likely do well in the semi-final.
"They've beaten Killarney twice this year already, and they beat them quite convincingly the other week,” he said.
Stanthorpe/Texas and Killarney will play on Sullivan Oval, on Saturday, August 20 at about 3.45 pm.
Entry fee is $5 paid at the gate.
