Abandonded alpaca wins over family that saved him

AN ALPACA found abandoned on a Maleny farm has won a place in the hearts of the North Arm family which nursed him back to health.

Hosea was suffering from neglect and abuse when the Turner family rescued him in May.

Vegan Warriors founder Jaylene Musgrave helped the Turners in the salvage of the alpaca.

"Their care is just phenomenal," Ms Musgrave said.

"He's just blossomed."

Hosea was treated at Palmwoods Veterinary Clinic last week for skin, fur, mouth and immunity problems.

"Psychologically he was really bad," Ms Musgrave said.

"He'd been attacked by two of the neighbour's dogs and mauled pretty badly.

"He looked like a giant cotton ball."

Veterinarian Brett Stone stepped in when the Turner family had difficulty finding anyone to treat him.

"His body condition had deteriorated to such an extent," Mr Stone said.

"He took the treatment well.

"The owners had a calming influence on him."

Hosea has had his teeth and toenails trimmed and has started to gain weight since being rescued.

He will return to the vet next week for further treatment.

Ms Musgrave said the Turners had done a wonderful job in taking care of Hosea.

"It's given me more belief that there's people out there who are kind to animals," she said.

The Turners have no plans to say goodbye to Hosea in a hurry.

"They adore him, he's gorgeous," Ms Musgrave said.

"They totally want to keep him."

The Turners are hoping for donations to assist with Hosea's future food and vet costs.
