
Saints march in 9-1 victory
SAINTS scored a 9-1 victory against Wyverns to win the mid-season cup in Warwick ladies’ hockey at the weekend.
The game was played between the two leading teams at the end of the second round.
Saints went into the cup final as the leading side in the competition.
After missing the win against Scots PGC two weeks ago, Jodie Olsen returned to the side with a strong game.
Toni Cox was strong in defence for a Saints side which only conceded one goal.
In the Wyverns team, striker Michelle Eastwell continued her strong play from the state veterans’ championship with a good game in the cup final.
The points table is close between the top-three teams in the ladies’ competition and any team could still win the minor premiership.
Competition leaders Corinthians beat Saints 6-3 in the cup final in men’s A-grade at the weekend.
Jesse Ollerton, Matt Hagenbach and Troy March were in top form for Corinthians with Steve Farrell, Craig McKay and Jason Battese best for Saints.
The two finalists in the men’s competition are well ahead in the points table but there is a close battle for third.
Last weekend’s cup finals doubled as fixture games so the winners went closer to minor premierships.
Harlequins beat Scots PGC 5-4 in a ladies’ game on Friday night.
On Saturday night in A-grade, Scots PGC beat Harlequins 3-1 in a men’s game.
Wyverns beat Harlequins in the late Friday night men’s game.
