Halves swap spots for A-grade game

HALVES Trent Achilles and Ryan McIvor will swap positions as the Warwick Cowboys A-grade side aims to beat Gatton in week two of the Toowoomba Rugby League finals at 7.10pm tomorrow at Clive Berghofer Stadium.

Achilles played halfback last week and McIvor five-eighth but Lawrence plans to continue his season-long plan of selecting his side based on the style of play of their opposition.

McIvor will play halfback tomorrow, a position he filled with distinction last season.

Lawrence said McIvor would play on the left side and link with regular back rower Luke Brosnan, who had been moved to the centres.

“We want to play Luke against the strong Gatton centres and use (regular centre) Jesse McIvor in the back row where he can run hard on the edge of the ruck,” Lawrence said.

The Cowboys have two injury concerns, back rower Scott Beard (ankle) and fullback Hayden McNicol (shoulder).

Both were checked out at training last night. The winner of the Warwick game against Gatton will play the loser of the Valleys game against Dalby in the September 12 preliminary final.

Prop John Trindall missed the 36-22 win against Brothers on Saturday after sustaining a back injury while shifting irrigation pipes but he trained well on Tuesday night and will play.
