Gremlins sniff a win
THE Gremlins are hoping to pick up their first win of the season when they take on the Texas Terriers this Saturday.
Stanthorpe Gremlins Rugby League club chairman Norm Crisp said the team was trying to iron out a few creases after last week's loss.
"There were a few silly mistakes, but that's what happens early in the season," he said.
"The boys are expecting to improve on last week."
Crisp said the Stanthorpe side would have the advantage over a depleted Texas line-up.
"Texas has been doing it tough for numbers," he said.
"You would have to come away with a pretty comfortable win.
"As long as they stick together as a team, that's all we're asking for."
Crisp said players were starting to find their stride, with strong numbers at training sessions.
Saturday will see the return of Brad Crisp, Tom Costanzo, John Williams and Clinton Thorne, forming a 19-strong squad.
However Texas' home-ground advantage could prove troublesome for the Gremlins.
In other games, Wallangarra will host a strong Killarney team.
The Cutters have singled themselves out as the team to beat, but a new and improved Rams' outfit could cause them some headaches.
Tenterfield will be out to avenge last week's narrow defeat, while the two Goondiwindi teams will battle it out on home turf.
Meanwhile Stanthorpe junior rugby league players will head to Warwick on Saturday, with games kicking off at Collegians at 8.30am.
If numbers are sufficient a Gremlins supporter bus will travel to Texas on Saturday, leaving the RSL at 11.30am. Anyone wishing to travel on the bus should phone Norm Crisp on 0418716591 by noon today.
