Gremlins' huge defeat over the Cowboys
TRL: Stanthorpe Gremlins revelled in the fanfare of Friday night football in last weekend's Toowoomba Rugby League Round 9 at Sullivan Oval, running in six tries to one in a 36 - 6 demolition of the Warwick Cowboys.
The addition of two premiership points has the Gremlins in third place on the Clive Berghofer 2nd Division premiership ladder.
Halfback Regan Sullivan was in shining form for the Stanthorpe side, running a hat trick of tries in a more than impressive performance against the Cowboys.
Sullivan has pocketed seven tries across the season to date, equal leader as top try scorer in the 2nd Division premiership.
Coach Gary Skimmings credited the Gremlins completion rate as a major contributor to the winning result, "we excelled in the first half, good ball security and fast paced footy allowed us to get on top of the opposition.”
While the Gremlins held a handy advantage at half time leading 18-6, the Cowboys staged a comeback in the second stanza.
The match was sealed when Jake Burnell scored an intercept try.
Newcomer 17-year-old Matthew Murphy impressed for Stanthorpe, a Central Division Crows representaive player last year, his youth and ability a bonus for the Gremlins.
Stanthorpe head to Toowoomba on Saturday to take on the Southern Suburbs Tigers at Glenholme Park.
Given the winless Tigers are struggling at the base of the premiership ladder, Stanthorpe have an opportunity to press claims for a Presidents Cup
The Toowoomba Rugby League's mid-season titles are taking place on June 17th at Herb Steinohrt Oval in Toowoomba, and include the A Grade Madsen- Rassmussen Trophy along with the President's Cup finals in Reserve Grade, Under 18 & 2nd Division.
Stanthorpe with 10 competition points are in the middle of a tightly bunched top four on the premiership ladder that includes Gatton (12 points), Pittsworth (11), and Dalby (10) with two rounds remaining before the two President's Cup teams are decided.
