BREAKING: The TRL could expand to 12 clubs next season as Stanthorpe has applied for affiliation for the 2015 season.

TRL board members and club officials will meet at Gold Park on Sunday for the league's annual general meeting and the prospect of 12 clubs playing next season is bound to be discussed around the election of office bearers for the next 12 months.

Stanthorpe has sent in an application for affiliation to the TRL which comes hot on the heels of Goondiwindi confirming it would apply for readmission after a Queensland Rugby League boundary review suggested the Boars return from playing in Group 19 in northern New South Wales.

The Stanthorpe Gremlins have been playing in Border Rugby League but have previously been part of the TRL between 1986 and 1996.

The TRL has consisted of 10 teams for the past three seasons but had 12 in 2011 and 11 in 2010.

Decisions on whether Goondiwindi and Stanthorpe will be accepted into the TRL will not be made at Sunday's AGM as the new TRL board will need to consider applications from all clubs, existing and potential.

TRL chairman Paul Dean expected the 2014 board and executive to be returned at Sunday's AGM at Gold Park, which starts at 10am.
