Granite Belt hits the small screen
WITH its fame stretching from the mountains behind Cairns to the glassy waters of Constitution Dock in Hobart, it's no wonder the Granite Belt will feature as a star attraction on a nation-wide television show this Sunday.
Southern Cross Ten's Ozzie Holiday series will feature the Granite Belt at 1.30pm on Sunday, with the region's state-of-the-art accommodation and world class wine at the top of the list.
The Granite Belt segment of the show was shot in October when Steve and Colette Horrocks, with son Jack, 8, embarked on their odyssey to share their travel tips with the world.
"We liked the Granite Belt and would actually enjoy spending some time there when we were not working in order that we could more appreciate it," Mr Horrocks said. "What impressed us the most was the variety of grapes available and the differing styles of wine they create.
"Coming from Tasmania we're accustomed to wine making, but this whole region is vastly different from the Tasmanian experience in that most of our vineyards and wines are cool climate coastal. Seeing wine produced in this way was quite a different experience and an unexpected surprise."
Even after his short, four-day visit to the Granite Belt, Mr Horrocks said he would certainly recommend the region to friends and family.
"We found the hospitality excellent and we were well looked after as we travelled through various locations," he said.
"For us, the best thing about the region was the ease of accessibility. Everything is close by and the play area near the river in Stanthorpe is an excellent place for both children and adults to unwind."
The camera crew and youthful presenter Jack spent four days on the Granite Belt shooting the episode which will also includes stories from Ipswich and the Whitsunday Islands. The Series began on December 11 with the Granite Belt episode airing on Southern Cross Ten this Sunday at 1.30pm.
