Good lead for golfer

SAM Hinze has an eight-shot lead in her quest to retain her A-grade ladies championship at the Warwick Golf Club.

Hinze scored 84 and 83 in her two rounds at the weekend to lead from Christine Hankinson-Jones who scored 89 and 86.

After her second round, Hinze said she was hitting the ball really well but not scoring as well as she had hoped.

"It was tough conditions," Hinze said.

In ladies B-grade, Annice Payne has been a model of consistency with scores of 95 in each round to lead by four shots from Patsy McIntosh who scored 98 and 96.

New member Melanie McLennan leads with 211 from past winner Pamela Kerr in C-grade.

In the men's competition, defending champion Steve Gander hit five over for the first two rounds, 72 and 71, to lead by five shots from club captain Adrian Murphy.

Eighteen-year-old Grantham golfer Nathan Dionysius, a member of the Warwick club, had an excellent weekend with scores of 74 and 76. He plays weekly in Warwick.

At age 14, Sam McLennan is one of the youngest in the field but is B-grade leader with 79 and 77 after an eagle on the last yesterday.

New member James Buchner is C-grade leader after only playing the sport in the past year.

The final two rounds of the championships will be played this weekend.
