Glassed in the head at Rainbow Beach

A VIOLENT incident between backpackers and Queensland locals at Rainbow Beach landed a man in hospital last night.

A man in his 20s was reportedly struck in the head with a glass bottle at or near the Rainbow Beach Sports Club shortly before 11pm, a Gympie police spokesman said.

"Someone got cut up with a bottle" it was reported to Gympie police.

While details were vague it is known the incident involved four people, including backpackers and locals who were from Queensland, not necessarily from Rainbow Beach.

The man, had a cut on the back of his head, was taken to Gympie hospital in a stable condition.

Gympie police said he was from Queensland not a backpacker.

In the same evening residents reported wheelie bins being knocked over on Rainbow Beach and Carlo Rds, which police say could be tied to the incident.

In other news over the weekend, a 15 year girl who came off a motorbike on a private property at about 11.40am at The Dawn yesterday was taken to hospital with a possible fractured leg.

About half an hour later a man in his 40s was also taken to hospital after crashing a motorbike at Eagle Nest Lookout in the Brooyar State Forest at Glastonbury.

He was suffering muscle injuries but in a stable condition.

Overnight Friday a car rolled on Rocks Rd at Pie Creek.

A Queensland ambulance spokeswoman said the driver managed to get themselves out of the vehicle and did not require treatment.
