Girls duck in for funds

A FLOCK of yellow rubber ducks took over the Allora swimming pool this Australia Day for the annual Allora Duck Race fundraiser.

The ducks have been congregating at the pool for 13 years in a community initiative to raise money for the Allora showgirls, who this year are Jess Van Der Poel and Lauren Morris.

A total of 680 ducks were launched over two races and close to $1100 raised, while $400 prize money was awarded to winners.

One of the girls will be chosen to represent Allora in the Toowoomba show in March. Ask- ed if they were competing for the honour, the girls laughed and said they were best of friends and we "just want to give something back to the community."
