Game decided at half-time

THE Anzac Cup stays in Warwick for another year after the Warwick Credit Union Redbacks showed no mercy for their opponents on Saturday.

The half-time score read 14. 9 (93) to Lockyer Valley 1. 2 (8).

The torrid tackling and hard, fast hitting of the Redbacks took its toll on Lockyer and left them with 13 players to field in the second half. Two of those players were also limping but prepared to play.

Unfortunately the rules of the game as it stands states that if a team's number falls below 14 fit players the game must be abandoned, hence the half-time score remained and the game ended.

On-baller Tyhe Clarkson earned himself the Anzac Medal as best player on the ground as voted on by the field umpires.

The Reddies had a confident look about them on their new ground. Added to Clarkson's success were some standout performances by Tony Chandler, Dale Randall and Clinton McErvale, all of which was complemented with some smart coaching by Jason Wright and Keith Clarke.

An early injury to the hand of captain Brendan Iles has cast a shadow over his selection for the all-important clash against archrivals Coolaroo on Saturday at Roddie's Oval.

Goals: C. McErvale 5, D. Randall 4, R. Lawer 2 and K. Heier, R Grady and C. Peterson 1 each. Best: T. Clarkson, T. Chandler, D. Randall, C. McErvale, D. Walker, A. Cutmore and C. Peterson
