Fundraiser to help boy with flesh-eating disease

AFTER reading a Border Post article about Kilan Barker, the young boy with a rare flesh-eating disease, Helen Campbell knew she had to do something to help out.

Helen and her husband, Ross Campbell, will host a special fundraising event at their home this weekend to support Kilan's parents Samantha Kreis and Andy Barker.

"The parents are having trouble with money, having to transport him up and down from Brisbane all the time, so we're trying to help him out,” Mrs Campbell said.

Kilan suffers from rare and serious bacterial skin infection, necrotising fasciitisat, which spreads quickly and kills the body's soft tissue.

Mrs Campbell has organised an event for Saturday at their home at 145 Mount Hutton Rd, Greenlands.

The family-friendly event will offer an array of entertainment, food, drink and activities for children.

People will be able to buy burgers, hot chips, pulled pork rolls and more, which have been donated or discounted by various businesses.

There will also be a bar in operation and a jumping castle.

The fundraiser will include a raffle where entrants can win items, including local wines and food donated by Granite Belt businesses.

From midday onwards there will be non-stop entertainment from Elle Rudd until 4pm, followed by Cole Train from 4-8pm.

The event, which is free to attend, will raise funds from the sale of food, alcohol and raffle tickets.

Mrs Campbell said any other donations were more than welcome.

She said it was a good idea for people to bring chairs and blankets to the event.

Anyone in attendance is welcome to camp at the property overnight if they want to drink, although anyone camping would need to provide their own tents or swags.

Mrs Campbell asked anyone planning to attend to RSVP for catering purposes. (Phone 0455 836 117.)

This is the perfect family friendly event for any Granite Belt residents to attend and help raise funds for the Barker family.

Mrs Campbell thanked all the businesses and people who donated time and effort to put together the event.
