Free rodeo spectacular on its way
RODEOS could become a mainstay in Stanthorpe - but only if locals back the concept.
With the annual Stanthorpe Campdraft fast approaching, organisers have decided to include a sweetener for punters.
The free Stanthorpe Bull Ride Spectacular will be held in conjunction with the campdraft on Friday, May 11.
"We've got our annual campdraft coming up May 11 and we're going to combine with the rodeo and put it on as a free spectacle for the town,” event co-ordinator Clint McErvale said.
"The campdraft will start on Friday morning, run through to open final and roll straight into the rodeo Friday night. It's what we're calling the Bull Ride Spectacular. We're going to have open bulls, open and junior barrel races as well.
"It's the first time we've had the two. It'll be the test run and it'll really be dictated by the support of the community whether we can do it on an annual basis.
"We want to show them that we're pushing ahead to put Stanthorpe on the map in the rodeo arena.
"The APRA have hinted they want to run a national final here in September, so this will give us an idea what we need to do to run a successful event.
"We need the locals to come in and create the atmosphere and really show the rodeo world this is a go-to place.”
The campdraft runs from May 11-13 at the new showgrounds arena.
