Former teacher 'threatens neighbour while in his underwear'

A FORMER teacher who allegedly threatened a neighbour while in his underwear at the Urangan Shopping Centre on Halloween has been bailed - despite being arrested for breaching previous bail conditions.

It was the sixth time Lindsay Peter Ekstrom was brought to police attention while on bail.

Ekstrom, 37, of Urangan, was granted bail on October 23 on charges of drink-driving when he allegedly blew .151% and drove while disqualified.

The Hervey Bay Magistrates Court initially granted Ekstrom bail to reappear on December 19, but the next night he was arrested for public nuisance and caught drink-driving - allegedly at 0.112%.

On October 27, police were called when he allegedly threatened his elderly neighbours while armed with a garden rake.

Police prosecutor Sgt Michael Quirk said on each occasion Mr Ekstrom was observed to be under the influence of alcohol.

A restricted item, a nunchaku, was allegedly found in Mr Ekstrom's possession on October 30.

Sgt Quirk said when Ekstrom was arrested for public nuisance and breach of a bail condition not to consume alcohol, he had a blood-alcohol reading of .229%.

"The defendant was highly intoxicated and wearing nothing but his underwear," he said.

Ekstrom was granted bail for his next court date on November 25 under conditions he did not drink and reported twice weekly to the Hervey Bay police station.
