Formation change fails to halt Glory slump

PERTH Glory captain Rostyn Griffiths says players will take time to adapt to a new formation after losing 4-1 to A-League ladder leader Sydney FC at nib Stadium on Saturday night.

It was the Glory's second straight home defeat following last week's loss to the Newcastle Jets, with coach Kenny Lowe switching to a 3-5-2 formation to change things up against the Sky Blues.

The Glory took the lead but the new back three of Aryn Williams, Dino Djulbic and Shane Lowry could not prevent the visitors from storming back to remain unbeaten after 11 league games.

"We worked on a couple of things, had a few changes in personnel as well, and it's never easy. But there's no excuses,” Griffiths said of the set-up.

"We've got to be better. It doesn't matter what formation you play, if you make mistakes like that it's going to cost you.

"Sydney are a quality side and they are going to punish you.”

Griffiths said despite the second-straight loss there were positives.

"I thought there was bright spells of good signs really,” he said.

"We started quite well and surprised them a little bit with a few changes and we kept the ball a little bit better and were a little bit more organised.

"But we've only just changed into a new formation so it's going to take a little bit of time and adjustment. I thought the endeavour was a bit better than last week so that's a positive sign.”

Perth travels to face Melbourne City next Tuesday.
