Players head online to register

ASHLEIGH Kane can't wait for the start of another Warwick District Football Association season.

Saturday is the final chance for players, aged five to 17, to sign up for the 2012 season.

"Football is my favourite sport by far," Ashleigh said.

"I enjoy the friendliness of the people and the atmosphere at Queens Park on Saturdays.

"I played in a girl's carnival at Stanthorpe last year, it was really good."

She has played since the under-6 age group and will play in the under-12s this season.

For two of her years in football, she has been coached by her father Derek Kane, a former Warwick Wolves premier coach.

Ashleigh said her sister Madison would also play.

"Madison will be in the under-8 grade," Ashleigh said.

"I can play in any position but prefer defence. It is more of a test to stop goals rather than score them.

"I love learning more skills and got out of bed at midnight and 3am to watch some games on television with my father in the last World Cup."

Association registrar Sally Beggs said there had been a strong surge in online registrations in the past fortnight.

"We have more than 300 players registered and more are welcome on Saturday," Beggs said.

"The more players the better. This will be the last sign-on for players five to 17 as players need to be allocated to teams."

Saturday is also the day association officials want final payments for registrations. The payment includes club shirt and socks, team photo and an end-of-season trophy.

Officials will be at the football clubhouse on the Park Rd. side of Queens Park from 10am to 2pm Saturday.

For more information phone Beggs on 0404 986 051or president Jon Pearson on 0448 603 860.
