Flyers shine at swim meet
SWIMMING: Winter season is over and swimmers are starting to get back into the swing of regular routine.
The season wound up with the Darling Downs Regional Swimming Association's Winter Short Course Championships, with Stanthorpe well-represented.
Typically an off-season event for the club, members Isaac Kay, William Kay, Isabel Kay, Lillian Kendall, Jessica Pradella and Ben Armbruster competed at this year's championships.
"All of our swimmers did really well at this meet, with Isaac and William (10 and under) and Ben (13 and over) all qualifying for the 50m freestyle sprint champion events,” President of Stanthorpe Swimming Club Shannon Armbruster said.
"William (36.77) placed 4th and Isaac (37.16) 5th in their event, both posting PBs in their swims.
"Ben then raced in the 13 and over final, cracking out a new PB of 24.90 to take out the sprint final and be named sprint champion for the meet.”
Jessica Pradella was named in the 2018 DDRSA Patrons Shield team. With the Junior Excellence (JX) results just being released from Swimming Australia, the club has excelled under coach Gail Smail, with 16 swimmers achieving JX times for last season.
They've been invited to attend the JX clinic at Fairholme, Toowoomba, on October 27. Swimming club sign-on will be Friday, October 12 from 5.30pm with a come and try night.
All registrations are now online, so swimming club committee members will be there to assist everyone in the process. A handful of swimmers will compete at the Glennie meet this Sunday, and Flyers the week after. "Our calendar is very busy once again, and we are looking forward to another fantastic season,” Shannon said.
